Our first show

So My first time got on it’s feet rather fast. Auditions were in February and the show needed to be ready to go by the end of April.
Our first job was to go over content because the play is about sex in every way. And my actors were talking about funny, awkward and unfortunate experiences on stage
All went well the first time. Still no work about fringe but we do have a lovely poster.

We did excellently at the Directors festival in Chilliwack, which was where our show was being out on. we had one of the highest attendance numbers for the space we were in. 2 sold out shows and standing ovations. Another high light was a show called Dog sees God put on by a new up and coming theatre group Coup d’État Theatre. so make sure you check them out as well

In the meantime

So while I was giving up on my fringe dream down at #22 on the wait-list I was still busy with my last semester of University.

This last semester also meant directing my second show of my university life. Weee.

I found a play call My First Time by Ken Davenport in the Vancouver public Library. Which I owe enormous amount of fees to for late books due to my directing dreams.

So this play is based off a web site myfirsttime.com. I’ve linked it but it’s really just a bunch of people having a go at writing soft core porn.

And Ken Davenport there has taken stories from it and one liners and out them into a play which I was to direct. if I could get it approved. Turns out a play about peoples first sexual experiences might be a little to risky for a university setting that claims to be supported by public funds. But with minor edits ( mostly for time)  the play was approved!

Then it was into casting fairly soon after that. I would have liked to have more time to mull over what I needed in each actor but what can ya do.

By mid-night Febuary 15th I had a cast. They didn’t know it yet, and I didn’t know how awesome they all are.

Fine out-standing students who don’t know what they’ve gotten them selves into just yet :)

Our First Fringe

Myself and an amazing cast and crew that has yet to be fully assembled are embarking on a journey to our fist Canadian Fringe Festival in Victoria B.C.

This blog will out line our progress as well as and provide information to those involved. At least that’s the goal for once I get this all figured out.

The journey started with me along one January afternoon when i decided to apply for the Victoria Fringe.

Why Victoria?

Well it’s close to where I live, kinda. But mostly because it was the only Canadian fringe still accepting applications.

So I threw my name into the hat under collywobbles theater. Not a real theatre company, I just had no idea what I was doing and thought I needed to come up with a name. It’s since been scraped. I still have a dream of starting a theatre company but lets focus on a show first. After that I waited a pain staking week for the draw to happen. ( see the way all shows in Canadian fringe are chosen is through random draw.)

Results:

#22 on the local waiting lists. There were 3 waiting lists with 75 companies waited over all. So the dream kinda ended there with only a 28$ hit to my bank account for trying to enter in the first place. See the whole fee was over 500$ so on the bright side I did save some money which I probably spent of things I didn’t need.
